About the project

biocircus

The goal of BioCircus is to address the lack of robustness in microbial strain engineering that is hampering the biomanufacturing industry in its transition to a global bioeconomy.

The research project is based on creating autonomously controlled microbial strains for bioproduction, with naringenin production as proof of principle. The construction of biosensors and dynamic regulation circuits that measure and control the production of the target molecule, improved using automation and predictive models, will define the main results of this project.

BioCircus will produce academic and industrial impacts that will boost the bioproduction field by shortening strain time-to-market.

The project, which has been awarded through an MCSA fellowship to Jonathan Tellechea-Luzardo, will also involve a placement at the biotech company ADM-Biopolis.
